They’re calling it “Classic IndyCar Racing.” I’m sorry, but a race from last year isn’t classic, it’s a rerun.

I agree, its not classic. Could have shown something from the early 2000's or 80's/90's.

That's the only one NBC has the rights to. ABC owns all the others.

How about 1992, the closest finish ever?

I was rather surprised to see the race on NBC. My recollection was that ABC has been showing them since the brick track days. In fact, I went to the TV guide and reached ABC first.

I’m watching the 1971 race on YouTube.

Didn’t they get Simon and Alex to do commentary for it?

I don’t know. I’m watching the 1971 race on YouTube. They’ve got David “ Dave” Letterman reporting from one of the corners. He just did a trackside interview with Mario Andretti.

Thanks for the heads up. Would have been great for ABC to play virtually any year of the race, but will take what I can get from NBC . Decent cooking background action.

I’m watching a repla y of the 1971 race on YouTube. That was the race where the pace car crashed into the photographer’s stand at the end of the pit lane at the start. A young David Letterman is one of the on-track reporters.

Yes. W ords should quantify things , don’t dilute them .
Following your lead I stepped outside and yelled a few words .

ABC had done it forever, but the last several years they were doing a crappier and crappier job of it. NBC/NBC Sports took over all IndyCar racing coverage last year.
ESPN is going to be showing the races from 2006, 2011, and 2014 this afternoon as well.

It takes me back to my youth to her Sir Jackie calling the race.
Watching the near complete lack of safety gear in the pits is wild. Do you know what year they started wearing gear? I still remember that race, I think it was Michael Andretti driving, when there was a mishap and the car drove over the pit crew guy’s head. Thank God he was wearing a helmet.

I felt better. They responded rather poorly though.

I don't know when the safety gear started on put lane, that was before my time. I remember watching Andretti run over the crew member. That was scary!

So the show on NBC was not a straight rerun. It was a freshly produced show with lots of new insight and commentary. It was actually quite good!

Interesting. I watched one of the ESPN replays. The one where the guy in the National Guard car (can’t remember his name) crashed into turn 4 of the last lap and lost. He lifted because of slower traffic and drifted into the wall (2011?). What a punch in the gut.

I turned those on after the NBC broadcast was over. That was 2011 when JR Hildebrand bit the wall coming out of 4 and gave up the lead. I saw that part today, and it was weird watching that, knowing it was coming.
It was also really sad to see smiling Dan Wheldon in victory lane, knowing he'd be dead by the end of the year :/

Went back out and yelled some more today.
Not sure if I scared up Abe Lincoln, or Colonel Sanders.
